Day 22: A Ferry, a Bus and no Backpack

Steps: 27.599 (25,0km)

Temples: 31 + 32 + 33

Today we did a little loop south of the Kochi to temples 31-33, and then took a bus back to the city. Tomorrow we can then take a bus back to temple 33 and continue from there.

Because we had booked an extra night, we were able to leave our backpacks at the hotel and only bring a small daypack, which made us wonder aloud if we really needed more than one pair of underpants and a toothbrush?

Water vapor clouds from yesterday’s rain showers still clung to the surrounding mountains as we set out and the high humidity quickly made us sweaty despite the lack of backpacks.

On the way to the ferry port we had lunch at an Ayurvedic restaurant that served South Indian food, and it was hands down one of the best meals we have had here.

We have both really been craving some spices aside from soy and bonito flakes (no offense to Japanese food, but everything you eat for 3 weeks straight tends to loose some of its initial appeal)

On the way back, we missed the first bus because we hadn’t read the sign where it was clearly explained (in Japanese) that there were two different stops depending on the departure time.

Just read the signs how hard can it be?

Luckily two confused looking gaijins will easily earn the sympathy of those around, and a nice bus driver on the way to his break took pity and showed us where to stand and wait for the next bus which arrived 20 mins later. And even though we might have inconvenienced the bus driver, balance was quickly restored to the Universe when our continued incompetence lead us to also overpay for the bus tickets…

Tomorrow it is going to rain A LOT – and everyone knows that you need as many snacks as it is going to rain, so we have been stocking up and are mentally preparing for a day of ponchos and puddles.

A lot of rain = a lot of snacks
