Day 36: Parks, Pearls and Pizza in Bed

Steps: 27.272 (21,2km)

Temples: None

We didn’t have long to walk today, but decided to get going early anyway, since the rain was set to start around noon.

We made it to Uwajima without much hassle and went straight to Tenshaen garden, which has been designated by the government as one of the most beautiful places in Japan.

The garden is known for its wisteria flowers (Fuji in Japanese) some of which were blooming when we went today.

After the garden, we went up to Uwajima castle, where we found refuge from a passing rain shower. The castle featured great views over the city and surrounding area as well as a couple of samurai armors, but not much else.

We also had time for a little shopping before checking in to our hotel. The Uwajima area is world known for its production of akoya pearls, and luckily jewelry is one of the few souvenirs that doesn’t weigh or take up much space in a backpack 😁

Local produce

We are staying out the rain for one extra day here in Uwajima. The city apparently has many regional specialties and we’re planning on finding some of them to try out tomorrow.

For tonight though, it’s Netflix and pizza in bed.

This minute piece of baked dough is a “medium” sized pizza. Which means there actually exists another called “small”, which presumably is even smaller than this?
