Steps: 28.387 (26,4km)
Temples: 34 + 35
We slept in today, enjoyed the breakfast buffet and dragged our feet just enough that by the time we finally got back to temple 33 to start todays walk, the rain had almost entirely stopped (the previous two hours had seen a downpour of more than 20mm).
Sometimes sleeping in really does pay off.
The humidity was close to 100% but it was still better than getting wet feet. Speaking of feet, Jonas left behind his worn out set of shoes in Kochi and had started walking in his new ones. So far, no blisters 🤞🤞
We walked through rice fields to the constant tune of frogs croaking, heavy clouds blurring the line between earth and sky.
We left our backpacks at the hotel in Tosa and went the last 3 kilometers up to temple 35. Legend has it that Kōbō Daishi conjured up a waterfall here with his staff (the name Kiyotaki means pure waterfall).
We didn’t see a waterfall, but we did see a whole family of frogs playing water slide along the steep side walk.
For dinner we had the most incredible sushi at a small place right next to our hotel. I don’t think I’ve mentioned it in here before. but prices are ridiculously low at the moment (I think maybe the yen is weak after corona?). We payed less than 7000¥ for nigiri, sashimi, drinks and 3 other small dishes. It would have cost at least the double in Denmark, probably more.
More rain in store for the rest of the weekend, and getting accommodation continues to be stressful, as things get booked up quickly. But we’re trying to stay grateful and enjoying it while we’re here. It’s all part of the training after all.
